It is almost Super Bowl Sunday. That means it is nearly time to kick back and enjoy what should be one of the most exciting games of the NFL season. Both offenses are expected to play well which should mean great things for daily fantasy players.

But with games like this, it is worth recognizing who you should select (see the previous article) and who the buyer beware guys are. They are not necessarily guys you should avoid but guys you may want to think twice about before starting.

How about some DFS Recommendations?

With this being the final game of the season, it is safe to say that everyone wants to win. That means you can’t afford to make any mistakes in your lineup this week. That means recognizing that some guys you usually trust may not be as good as usual this week.

Before you start these guys, make sure you really want to:

•    C.J. Anderson, running back, Los Angeles Rams: He has run well in his short time with the team, and the Rams have shown a willingness to make the focus of the run game if Gurley falters. But for the Super Bowl, you have to think they are going to lean on Gurley until they absolutely can’t. At that point, it will be too late for Anderson to become a viable fantasy option.
•    Todd Gurley, running back, Los Angeles Rams: He was one of the most productive guys in football this season. But a knee injury slowed him down towards the end of the season. With Anderson running so well, Gurley seems to be in a bit of a platoon situation. The Rams say he is not hurt, but don’t be shocked if he has a minor procedure following the end of the season.
•    Rob Gronkowski, tight end, New England Patriots: statistically, this has not been a great season for the Gronk. With how much the Patriots are running the ball, he seems to have embraced his role as a blocker. While that is great for Sony Michel’s daily fantasy value, it does nothing for his.
•    Rex Burkhead, running back, New England Patriots: He is not worth starting unless he scores a couple of touchdowns. But he is not going to find it as easy against the Rams as it was against the Chiefs.
•    Sony Michel, running back, New England Patriots: He has run well throughout the playoffs, but he is going to be facing a front that has held three of the best running backs in the NFL (Ezekiel Elliot, Alvin Kamara, and Mark Ingram) to less than 100 yards combined the last two weeks. Michel may still do well, but he could just as easily struggle.

Choosing a quarterback for your daily fantasy team is going to be a little challenging this week. Not because you only have eight guys to choose from, but because you have a variety of options. You can go the expensive route and take Patrick Mahomes, or you can save some money and take a chance on Nick Foles or Philip Rivers.

It is not an easy call this week.

How about some DFS QB Recommendations?

It all depends on what sort of strategy you want to use when setting your daily fantasy roster. Do you want to go with the best but pay the price it will take to start him? Or would you rather save some salary cap space for a stud player at another position?

Whatever your strategy is, the following players are options everyone should consider:

•    Nick Foles, Philadelphia Eagles: The two interceptions last week hurt his value, but otherwise he had a good day against one of the best defenses in the league. With the Saints being one of the best run defenses in the league, the Eagles will need Foles to throw early and often if they want to win.
•    Andrew Luck, Indianapolis Colts: Luck wasn’t fantastic for daily fantasy players last week, but when your run game is gashing someone as bad as there’s was—you have to go with it. The Chiefs are going to score points, and their defense is terrible. Luck is going to need to sling the ball around for the Colts to keep up.
•    Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints: he hasn’t had a truly good fantasy week since Atlanta, but if Mitchell Trubisky can torch the Eagles for 300+ so can Brees.
•    Philip Rivers, Los Angeles Chargers: Rivers comes with a little more risk than the others because you can never tell when the ‘playoff’ Patriots are going to show up. Will they be the same defense that ended the regular season ranked 22nd against the pass? Or will they be the group that locks down and gets the job done now that it is playoff time? If it is the former, Rivers is a great choice. If it is the latter, he’s cheap, and you can probably afford Todd Gurley or Ezekiel Elliot.

 

Best Bet?

Patrick Mahomes has been the man all year, but the Colts defense has been playing exceptional football this season. Do you really want to roll the dice? Tom Brady has had a disappointing fantasy year and can you really trust Dak Prescott to deliver (no).

Go with Nick Foles. The Saints are going to shut down whatever run game the Eagles attempt to have, forcing Nick Foles to save the day—and he will. If you just don’t like the Eagles, then roll with Luck.
