At the BMW Championship held at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania this past weekend, the PGA Tour’s elite were notching birdie after birdie despite weather causing play to spill over into Monday. In the end, it was Keegan Bradley besting Justin Rose in yet another playoff, proving that the talent this season is so closely matched, that 72 holes isn’t enough to determine a champion many weekends.

Bradley tasted victory for the first time in six years, but as a daily fantasy golf pick, he’s been a solid bottom-tier player who consistently makes cuts, averaging 69.2 fantasy points per game on DraftKings, despite never really costing more than $7000 on any given weekend. But 28 birdies at Aronimink let him put up 137 points on FanDuel, a monster number for any four-day contest.

Solid Play From Last Week’s Recommendations

Of the seven players we mentioned in the previous post, the thee more expensive options in Bryson DeChambeau, Tony Finau, and Francesco Molinari all finished within the top 20. But our middle and lower tier choices of Kyle Stanley, Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Chez Reavie, and Andrew Landry all finished in the middle of the pack. While the latter group all scored around 60 to 70 points on both DFS sites, it was other affordable picks like Bradley, Xander Schauffele, and Kevin Na that were swinging the results in DFS contests.

Building a Winning Lineup with a Short Field

With only 30 players to choose from when the Tour Championship kicks off in two weeks, daily fantasy players will have to apply their best research and a little extra savvy in order to best the competition on FanDuel and DraftKings. It’s easy to factor in Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, and Rory McIlroy into the equation, but who else really stands out as an impact player when they tee it up at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta?

Jordan Spieth won’t be one of those players to consider. For the first time in his career, he will miss out the finale of the FedExCup, but rising star Xander Schauffele will be there, and represents a great value pick at $8900 on FanDuel. He might have a little extra fire after Jim Furyk selected Tony Finau for the final Ryder Cup spot over him as well.

Speaking of Finau, the PGA pro earned his spot by finishing inside the top ten for the 11th time this season, most on tour. He is an attractive option for the Championship at $8600 on DraftKings.

Potential Low Salary Options

It’s hard to consider anyone who’s made it this far into the playoffs a sleeper pick, but nonetheless, there are several cheap options for filling out the back end of your lineup. Last week’s winner Bradley, Marc Leishman, and the suddenly on fire Billy Horschel are all available in that bottom tier and have the ability to go on birdie binges. Whether you take a flyer on one of these options, or try to take advantage of the lower price for a Bubba Watson or Jon Rahm, don’t forget to compare your picks against our expert’s lineup first, which will be made available to all prior to the start of the tournament on September 20.

Anyone that thought the Ravens defense would put the lockdown on the Bengals offense Thursday night was left disappointed. It was a primetime game! Did someone forget to tell Andy Dalton that? Four touchdowns, no sacks, and no picks— you go, Andy!

But games like that just go to show how difficult it can be to pick the right daily fantasy defense (DS/T). The Ravens were not expected to dominate the Bengals like they did the Bills last week. But they were not expected to let Andy Dalton look like an All-Pro.

How about a few DFS DS/T recommendations?

The safest and most expensive bet this week is the Los Angeles Rams. Sam Bradford and David Johnson could not get it going last week against the Redskins. It is hard to see them doing any better this week against the Rams.

Some of the other usual suspects look like good bets as well. The Denver Broncos could easily give Jon Gruden and the Raiders there second beating in a row. With Marcos Mariota’s health in question and Delanie Walker out for the season, there is a good chance the Houston Texans defense is going to go nuts.

But if you need a cut-rate DS/T, give these guys a look:

• Washington Redskins: Andrew Luck may be back, but the Indianapolis Colts are still not very good.
• San Francisco 49ers: Holding the Vikings to just 24 points and 343 total yards was pretty good. Considering how the Lions did last week, it is not hard to see the 49ers DS/T having another big day this week.
• Carolina Panthers: Did you see these guys maul the Cowboys offense? The Panthers have the best front four in football. Matt Ryan is in trouble (and Devonta Freeman is out).
• Los Angeles Chargers: Yes, I know; they bombed last week against the Chiefs, and Joey Bosa is out—but they are playing the Bills. Oh—and the Bills are starting a rookie QB who is not ready; he’s just the better of two bad options.

Best Bet?

I’d say go with the Texans this week. Deshaun Watson is going to get better with each week. Tennessee’s offense could become severely limited if Mariota can’t go. It’s already limited after losing Delanie Walker.
