Sleeper Pick Of The Week: Houston Texans Tight End Stephen Anderson
Sleeper Pick Of The Week: Houston Texans Tight End Stephen Anderson
The hard part about setting a daily fantasy roster is trying to figure out who you can get for cheap that will produce. But if they are anyone you can count on producing points, they will likely not come cheap. So, you must go for someone you hope will produce while you use most of your salary on other guys.
Maybe someone like Houston Texans tight end Stephen Anderson.
Who?
Unless you are related to the San Jose native or played with him at Cal, chances are you have not heard about him. Last week, he caught five of the 12 balls thrown his way for 79 yards (both career highs) and a touchdown.
Including last week’s breakout performance, he has 33 career receptions for 415 yards and two touchdowns. Most of his work has come this season (22 receptions for 322 yards and one touchdown).
So why does he matter now?
After all, he only had six balls thrown his way the three weeks prior to last week’s big game (caught three).
True, but since Tom Savage doesn’t have anyone else other than DeAndre Hopkins, he is going to have to throw to someone. Will Fuller is still nursing a rib injury. Bruce Ellington has been put on the IR as has C.J. Fiedorowicz. Chances are good Braxton Miller will not play due to the concussion he suffered last week.
Savage truly doesn’t have anyone else.
But that doesn’t mean he’ll produce.
It doesn’t—but he might. The San Francisco 49ers are not exactly one of the better passing defenses in the NFL (No. 19; 231 yards/game). According to FantasyData.com, they give up the third most points to quarterbacks—which is a good sign for anyone catching balls from those quarterbacks.
However, they tend to be a little stingy when it comes to tight ends (20th; 6.8 points/game).
So, why go with him?
Savage appears to have found his game the last few weeks. He may throw to the wrong guys at the worst times, but he’s generating yards regardless of who is in the lineup. That could mean someone else will get lucky this week. It could mean Hopkins will have a huge day.
It could also mean Anderson will do it again.
