Week 10 MNF Preview
The New York football Giants (5-3) will host the Cincinnati Bengals (3-4-1) for an inter-conference showdown on Monday Night Football. This will be the 10th regular-season game between the two, with the Bengals leading the series 6-3. The Giants are fighting to close a 3 game gap behind the Cowboys in the NFC East while the Bengals need a win to stay within striking distance in the crowded race for first in the AFC North.
Can New York’s ground game get on track?
The Giants rushing attack is the worst in the NFL and they are hoping to improve this week as they face a Bengals team that is allowing an average of 4.4 yards per carry and 116.1 yards per game. Coming off the week 8 bye, the Giants backfield was a 50/50 split between veteran Rashad Jennings and rookie Paul Perkins. Perkins played on 34% of the snaps but was just as productive as Jennings and played very well down the stretch against the Eagles. The Giants will need to sustain drives and reduce the three-and-outs that have plagued them this season. They currently average 2 minutes, 15 seconds per drive on offense. If ever the Giants need their rookie to have a break-out game, it’s this week.
Two great passing attacks with two suspect passing defenses
Andy Dalton leads a Bengals passing attack that ranks 4th in the league while Manning and the Giants rank 6th. Cincinnati’s defense ranks 25th in total defense with New York at 23rd. Cinci gives up an average of 262.4 yards through the air and has allowed 16 passing touchdowns this season. The Giants give up an average of 371.2 total yards per game and have generated a league-low 11 sacks. Both teams boast elite receivers in A.J. Green and Odell Beckham Jr. as well as excellent pass catchers in WR Sterling Shepard and TE Tyler Eifert. This game has the potential to become a shootout.
