Eric Sogard is Coming Up Big for the Brewers
Eric Sogard should instantly be on your radar as the season continues. Ryan Braun has been sidelined with a calf injury, giving way to Sogard being called up. The 30 year old-left hander is batting .476 so far in his first 7 games in the MLB this season.
Sogard is a fantasy commodity because of his ability to do it all. In his 7 games, he has 2 home runs, 7 RBIs, 6 Runs Scored, and 2 Stolen Bases. The veteran has displayed great versatility and can play basically any position. He is primarily an infielder, but has been taking reps in the outfield due to the Braun injury.
Jonathan Villar has moved down to 6th in the batting order, as Sogard completely took over the leadoff spot for this scorching hot ball club. The Brew Crew are a completely different team this year, and can absolutely rake the baseball, especially when they are back to full strength. Sogard should not have to worry about anything, as it looks like he will not be sent down any time soon, and has earned his spot on the Brewers roster.
Look for him to take over Oswaldo Arcia’s spot at Shortstop once Braun returns, and look for the Brewers to make a serious push to win the NL Central this year, as that is probably one of the toughest divisions in all of baseball. The Brewers have found their missing piece to their lineup that adds speed and power. Let’s see how Craig Counsell shapes up this powerhouse lineup when Braun returns from the calf injury. I expect Villar to take back his natural leadoff position soon, but look for Counsell to maybe bat Sogard at the 2 holes, moving back Thames to 3rd and Braun to cleanup. This lineups is going to do wonders, so make sure you keep a close eye on Eric Sogard, as he has a bright season ahead of him, bearing no setback.
