Aaron Rodgers Is Out…Is It Safe To Start Any Green Bay Packers?
The Green Bay Packers appeared to be giving daily fantasy players an early Christmas present when they started Aaron Rodgers last week against the Carolina Panthers. Randall Cobb certainly saw a boost in production as did Richard Rogers. Davante Adams was shaping up to have a good day before he was injured.
As for Rodgers, he cleared 300+ all-purpose yards and threw three touchdowns, but als
o had three picks. So, he was better than Brett Hundley and made everyone else more productive. But since the Packers are no longer in contention for the playoffs, he’s no longer playing.
So, what does that mean for daily fantasy players? Are any of the Green Bay Packers advisable daily fantasy options?
In a word….
No.
It would probably not be a good idea to start any of them even if Rodgers was playing. Yes, he could probably generate some offense against the Minnesota Vikings defense. But could he generate enough to help you win your daily fantasy leagues?
The odds would not be in his favor.
So far, this season, the Vikings defense has allowed a single 100+ yard rusher, just one 100+ yard receiver, and two quarterbacks to throw for 300+ (and one of them also threw three interceptions).
What about Brett?
Aaron Rodgers was injured in the first game against the Vikings leaving Brett Hundley to finish the game—and it didn’t go well. He ended up completing 18 of 33 pass attempts for just 157 yards and one touchdown. But he also had three interceptions.
Yeah, it wasn’t a good day.
He got better and even had a four-game stretch where he threw for 200+. But he would have been worth starting in just one game (vs. Steelers; 245 yards passing, three touchdowns).
So, this week…
With Rodgers out, and the Vikings gunning for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, leave the Packers off your daily fantasy rosters. The Packers offense is probably going to struggle. If Hundley isn’t reason enough to convince you—they are playing one of the top defenses in the league.
If you like your money, roll with guys from other teams.
