Pebble Beach Pro-Am: Teeing it Up With the Stars
Pebble Beach Pro-Am: Teeing it Up With the Stars
72 holes just doesn’t seem to be enough to determine a PGA tournament champion in the early part of the 2018 season. Record setting crowds packed the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale to witness two unlikely names battle it out in a one-hole playoff. Gary Woodland finished off a terrific Sunday by ending things on the 19th hole after seeing the former Sun Devil Chez Reavie birdie 17 and 18 to force extra play.
Raucous Crowds Enjoyed the Phoenix Birdie Fest
In Woodland’s first win in five years, he notched 26 birdies for the tournament, with a whopping nine on Sunday. The 138 points he put up for the DraftKings four day daily fantasy tournament was quite the value, as he was available for $8600. As runner-up, Reavie swung a lot of contests with his 125.5.
While these two weren’t heavily drafted, the high salary players offered daily fantasy players mixed results. Back-to-back champ Hideki Matsuyama had to withdraw with a troublesome wrist after the first round, sinking many players’ lineups if they invested in his steep price tag as the odds-on favorite prior to Thursday. Jordan Spieth had a miserable first two rounds and found himself outside the cut. Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm and Rickie Fowler fared decently, however, as all three stayed competitive throughout the weekend.
Matt Kuchar and Phil Mickelson paid off for those who took them as a value pick on FanDuel and DraftKings. Kuchar lit the course on fire Sunday, shooting a 64, while Mickelson experienced a bit of a resurgence with a top ten finish. Ollie Schniederjans and Brandan Steele put up big numbers as well, with both available for under $8000 on DraftKings.
PGA’s Best Hoping for a Blockbuster Weekend At Pebble Beach
Much attention will be paid to the Hollywood stars attending this weekend’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but a number of the PGA’s finest are trying to position themselves as the world’s number one. Jason Day hopes to capture a second win in three weeks, while Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Spieth, and Rahm round out the early favorites. Day has a great track record at Pebble Beach, while seemingly no one has played this tournament better than Johnson.
Hidden values can be found in this deep tournament. JB Holmes has a consistent track record at the AT&T, and is available for a steal on DraftKings at $7400. Spaniard Rafa Cabrera Bello makes a great sleeper pick at $6900 if his solid play so far during the Asian Swing continues. Big names such as Bubba Watson, Brandt Snedeker, and Kuchar can help build a winning lineup, and are available for a good value.
