Week 10 Thursday Night Football Preview
The Baltimore Ravens (4-4) will host the Cleveland Browns (0-9) for an AFC North showdown on Thursday night football. This will be the 36th meeting between these two teams, with the Ravens leading the series 26-9. Ravens coach John Harbaugh has lost just two meetings against the Browns in his tenure and a win tonight will give the Ravens first place in the division.
Cody Kessler gets the start
Josh McCown has had success against the Ravens in the past but coach Hue Jackson will be starting Cody Kessler- the sixth different quarterback to play for the team this year. The rookie third-rounder from USC has posted passer ratings of 100+ in three of the six games that he has played. Johnny Manziel was the last quarterback to pilot the Browns to a victory and Kessler will endeavor to break the losing streak tonight.
Joe Flacco hasn’t been playing well and he doesn’t look like the same player since tearing his ACL late in 2015. Though, eight games he’s been completing 61.2 percent of his passes for 2,078 yards (6.2 yards per attempt), six touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He’s not moving the ball well and the running game isn’t offering much help. The Ravens will need to get more from their offense if they hope to emerge from this game as the leaders in the AFC North.
The last meeting
These teams played in week 2 of this season. In that game, the Browns jumped out to a 20-0 lead before losing Josh McCown to a shoulder injury and forcing Kessler to relieve him. The Ravens rallied with 25 unanswered points and won the game 25-20. Rookie Corey Coleman showed excellent promise in that game with 5 receptions for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns. Coleman broke his hand in practice a month ago but has returned to play. The Browns offense has shown flashes but has found itself the perpetual victim of the NFL’s 31st ranked defense.
