Week 9 Monday Night Football Preview
The Seattle Seahawks (4-2-1) host the Buffalo Bills (4-4) in this week’s Monday Night Football game. This is the 13th meeting between the two teams with the Bills leading the series 7-5. Since the start of the 2012 season the Seahawks have won 35 of 39 games at CenturyLink field while the Bills haven’t won an official Monday Night game in this century.
Expect a defensive battle
This game sets up as a low-scoring affair between two struggling, injury-plagued offenses and two good defenses. Seattle ranks 7th against the rush, 9th against the pass and is 6th in overall defense. Buffalo’s defense is ranked 16th overall but has the most sacks in the league (26) and is 3rd in turnover margin (+8). Both teams prefer to run the ball and both teams have good run defenses.
The Run game
Buffalo averages almost twice as many rushing yards per game as Seattle. Led by LeSean McCoy, the Bills are averaging 154.1 yards per game compared to the Seahawks’ 81.4. McCoy and his compliment Mike Gillislee will have a big test this week as they matchup against MLB Bobby Wagner who leads the league with 74 tackles on the season. Christine Michael has been playing in relief of injured Thomas Rawls and only has one 100 yard game so far this year.
Wilson finding a way to win
Russell Wilson hasn’t thrown a touchdown pass since Week 4, has one multi-touchdown game on the season, and has flopped in two great matchups against the Falcons and Saints. Wilson has always been considered a “find a way to win” type of quarterback but injuries and lack of a great support cast have the Seahawks ranked 29th in points scored, 23rd in total yards, 16th in passing and 28th in rushing. Despite the poor numbers, Wilson is still completing 65.6% of his passes with only two picks and the Seahawks are leading the NFC West with a 4-2-1 record.
