Week 11 MNF Preview

By Dawni - 7 years ago in NFL News

Houston Texans at Oakland Raiders

8:38PM EST at Estadio Azteca, Mexico City

57F – 53F Partly Cloudy with 1 mph winds

Oak -6 O/U 45

The Houston Texans (6-3) and Oakland Raiders (7-2) travel to Mexico City for an international Monday night showdown. This is the tenth meeting between these two teams with the Texans leading the series 6-3. The Texans are first place in the AFC South while the Raiders can take control of the AFC West with a win.

How they match up

These two teams are essentially the opposite of each other. Oakland’s defense ranks 28th in the NFL allowing 398 yards per game while Houston has one of the best defenses in the league allowing just over 317 yards per game. Derek Carr is becoming one of the best young quarterbacks in the league and the Raiders boast one of the NFL’s most potent offenses. In Houston, free agent acquisition Brock Osweiler is looking like a huge bust as Bill O’Brian’s complex offense is underachieving.

Getting the offenses rolling

Oakland defeated Denver 30-20 in week 9 (they had a bye in week 10) and they did it with Carr throwing for only 184 yards and no touchdowns. In doing so, Oakland proved that their offense is good enough to win without riding on the shoulders of it’s passing attack. Oakland has put up at least 30 points in five games this year. Houston has lost 14 straight games when allowing 30+ points.

Houston is coming off a 24-21 road win against Jacksonville. The Texans are 6-0 when scoring at least 19 points this year. They are 0-3 in the games that they did not score at least 19 points. Brock Osweiler had two touchdowns passes last week but threw for only 99 yards. Osweiler, having played for Denver in the AFC West, is familiar with the Raiders and had a career-high 308 yards through the air against Oakland in week 14 of last year.
